Sgraffito Challenge Day 7

Up to this point in the challenge we have been able to only use our fingers and a business card to make our drawings. Today, the challenge allowed us to make a tool to use...
My favourite tool for sgraffito is a rubber tipped clay tool so I decided to try to fashion something along those lines. Here it is, my shiv if you will
It was made out of a plastic pickle fork, part of a water bottle cap and, of course, duct-tape. Worked quite well and gave me the control that I was looking for. Here is my drawing
Not my best but I had limited time today (but more than 5 min!!) and a lot of interruptions. I get to use my tool again tomorrow so we'll see what I come up with.

Sgraffito Challenge Day 6

Didn't have a lot of time today, which is good cause it was another 5 in 5 day. You would think for as much time as I spend adoringly gazing at Kitty that I'd be able to draw a better cat picture.
And here are some more trees....

Sgraffito Challenge Day5

Today was another 5 in 5..... Oh boy. I remember from yesterday how exhausted I was after that madness... And here we go again. So today I'm not feeling on my "A" game so I was mentally preparing myself for the challenge, what could I draw, make a game plan so I can get through this. Trees, I can always draw some more trees. Okay.... Deep breath, here I go...
Well, nothing when according to my plan. 5 minutes seemed like 2, the
ducks looked like birds of prey, and the powder was like sand under my fingernails. After the 2nd failed attempt to make something look like something I gave up and said "look like nothing then!" And a funny thing happened... I started to relax, 5 minutes started to seem like at least 7.5 minutes, and my drawings got pretty strange. But cool, I actually like them better than yesterday's (still not enough to post more than 1... Okay maybe 2) So please enjoy these, I enjoyed making them.

Sgraffito Challenge Day 4

Today's challenge was to do 5 drawings only taking 5 minutes to do each one. Once your time is up (which trust me, the drawing was never done) you dumped the powders off the glass and started the next one. I learned a lot with this challenge, the most important would be about time.... 5 minutes when your public speaking = forever; 5 minutes for a Scraffito drawing = a mere blip of time. This really threw me out of my comfort zone as I can spend hours on shaping one tree... I like to take my time. But it's good to be uncomfortable sometimes I guess (so they say) makes you appreciate that which gives you comfort all the more. I was going to post all 5 of my drawings.... Ha, not. But here's one that came out decent I guess.

Sgraffito Challenge Day 3

I was thinking about cattle country of Oklahoma when I did this... My bird of prey looks like a duck. Maybe it could be a small fat songbird of the prairies? Unfortunately this was done at my house instead of my studio (so no kiln here) so it will go back in the jar.
